High-quality starting pipe

The starting material for the induction-bent end product is usually one of the following types of pipe:

Seamless hot finished steel pipe
manufactured using a variety of rolling processes
Outside diameters: 88.9 to 660 mm (31&Mac218;2" to 26")

Plug mill
Hot rolling seamless steel tubes in the plug mill

Seamless thick-walled steel pipe
manufactured using the pierce and draw process
Outside diameters: 300 to 1,500 mm
Inside diameters: 180 to 1,140 mm

Pierce and draw process
Manufacture of thick-walled steel pipe using the pierce and draw process

HFI-welded steel pipe
high-frequency induction longitudinally welded
Outside diameters: 88.9 to 508 mm (3 1&Mac218;2" to 20")

HFI process
Pipe welding using the HFI process (high-frequency induction welding)

Large diameter pipes
UP-longitudinally or UP-spiral welded
OD: 508 mm to 1.780 mm (20" to 70")

Large-diameter pipe
Manufacture of a submerged-arc longitudinally welded large-diameter pipe

Mannesmann's comprehensive manufacturing programme for seamless and welded steel pipe enables us to select the optimum starting pipe for every size and application. This means compliance with any special requirements in terms of material, mechanical properties and dimensional tolerances can be ensured right from the starting material.

Subsequent further processing at the Mülheim mill involves a large number of processes and tests, all carried out in line with the most demanding quality assurance standards.
